Linux senior developer (m/f) (L3/Maintenance)
Description:
As developer in our L3/maintenance team you will be responsible to provide back-up assistance to the support department on escalated issues (L3) from enterprise customers that need experienced expertise to be solved. You will be tracking and debugging problems and helping to integrate solutions and fixes back into SUSE products, both for current releases (maintenance) and future ones.
Tasks/Responsibilities:
• Provide Level 3 support (L3) for issues escalated by our enterprise customers
∘ Qualification and analysis of bugreports
∘ Priorization of issues and estimation of time needed for resolution
∘ Involve the right people to optimally resolve an issue in time
∘ Provide council and direction on how to resolve an issue (e.g. workaround, temporary fix or general update) to support organization, technical product and project management
∘ Debug and fix problems, working hand in hand with support engineers and SUSE Labs
• Integration of temporary fixes and solutions into our products
• Improving the debugging tools
• Participate actively in discussions on kernel mailing lists, retrieving
• feedback from users, partners, and customers
• Work together closely with the Kernel teams in SuSE Labs
• Work on documenting and improving the debug tools for kernel problem analysis. Provide training for support engineers.
• Work on general development projects together with other R&D engineers (e.g. with the SUSE Labs kernel engineers)
Qualifications:
• highly skilled in C development
• solid knowledge of Linux and preferably experienced in Linux kernel development
• broad knowledge of Linux and Unix system tools and common scripting languages
• familiar with working in the Open Source community
• preferably expertise in one or more areas of the Linux kernel, e.g.
∘ kernel debugging and crash analysis
∘ iSCSI, IDE, SCSI, ...
∘ virtualization
∘ networking stack, TCP/IP
∘ network drivers
∘ block I/O layer and schedulers
∘ filesystems, Linux VFS
∘ Linux 2.6 driver model, sysFS, hotplug
∘ memory management (paging, writeback, hugeTLBfs, ...)
∘ misc drivers (USB, I2C, PCMCIA/CardBus, PCI-e, ...)
• good communication skills (including fluent english)
• customer oriented, detailed, and reliable working style
• enjoy working in a global team
Organisation:

Junior Accessibility Software Engineer
Description:
This experienced software engineer will participate in the software development process for enhancing the accessibility framework on the Linux desktop. A willingness to learn and ask questions, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to focus on problem resolution are required.
