Sybase 西安  Senior Manager QA

Purpose of the Position:
In a senior leadership role, has primary responsibility for establishing priorities, assigning and managing activities of Software Engineering Managers and/or engineering project/product teams to ensure timely completion and delivery of multiple, complex projects/products that meet customer specifications and business needs. Through other managers or directly, oversees the design, development and implementation of tests, result evaluations and rework for all product components in support of delivery of quality software products that meet customer specifications.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
General
Establishes project priorities, assigns and manages the activities of the engineers within the group, assuring the delivery of each project within the established commitments, ensuring quality, performance and conformance with established specifications.
Coordinates efforts with other managers and teams to assure timely release of high quality and high performance products that meet or exceed customer and market requirements on the appropriate platforms.
Works with technical support, customers and others to address product usability, reliability, performance and functionality issues.
Contributes to defining and implementing business and product strategy for business unit products.
Ensures the successful performance of all sections within assigned area of responsibility.
Assures that the components built by the organization fit together into a cohesive product or product line achieving the overall business objectives of the unit.
Works with other senior management staff to formulate group-wide strategies, identifying alternatives as necessary and appropriate.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Presumes that change is constant and acts in ways that enable change to occur positively.
Acts congruently with Sybase values. Promotes teamwork and cooperation within own department and between other departments in the business unit.
Acts with urgency and intensity. Supports the business needs of the business unit and Sybase through ideas, action planning and communication.
Works effectively and cooperatively with peer managers and department staff.

Planning
Plans teams work (with them), documents and reviews the plan (with the engineering and product management team members), then executes according to the plan.
Highlights exceptions to the plan, identifying actions being taken to address the exceptions.
Achieves the committed results within the time frame, functionality, performance and quality objectives established for the project.
Highlights risks early. Incorporates risk elimination early into work plans.
Demonstrates strong organization and problem solving skills. Uses maturity and motivation to deal with diversity of goals, objectives and duties.

Fiscal
Sets departmental and engineering-wide budgets. Responsible for managing spending to stay within the approved budget.

Education and Related Experience:
Outside of North America, please refer to your country's / region's education and experience matrix.
BS/BSCS & 11+ years or MS/MSCS & 10+ years

Software development and/or quality assurane experience, plus software engineering management experience, are required.

Demonstrates strong organization and problem solving skills. Uses maturity and motivation to deal with diversity of goals, objectives and duties. Must have multiple project experience on the full product life-cycle of design and implementation through customer shipment, ideally in a large team environment and on products used in commercial software situations. Two or more years developing Microsoft Windows, Macintosh, OS/2 PM, or Unix-based applications is required.
Has two or more years experience managing product development in the database applications development domain.

A background in object-oriented analysis, design and development is a significant advantage either Java and/or C++.

Drives consideration of business and long range technical issues in addition to specific product issues in all actions and tasks.
Exercises independent judgment in developing methods and evaluating criteria for obtaining results. Participates in making and approving decisions and authorizing their implementation.
Acts as a liaison on specific projects between departments, functional areas and/or customers. Interactions involve matters of importance where maintaining effective working relationships is a prime concern to the department objectives.
Is an effective team player, working closely with other business unit managers, vendors, technical support, and at times, sales, to coordinates timely, accurate delivery of high quality products.
Drives coordination other departments to assure meeting or exceeding product requirements.
Inaccurate decisions cause critical delays in projects and severely affect overall success of the functional division or company operations.

Problem Resolution
Handles broad problem scope and ambiguity level in identifying appropriate solutions.
Identifies program-wide issues and aggressively drives resolution of identified issues using time as the most critical resource.
Raises issues with responsible managers along with either recommended solutions or a flag identifying the need for creating resolution alternatives.


Process
Uses engineering processes to manage, control and direct the development activities. Measures these activities with appropriate metrics. Communicates these metrics to other teams on a weekly basis.
Advocates, demands and supports the use of inspections and reviews for all work products of the project team.
Uses Sybase administrative processes wherever appropriate.



Decision Making:
Works closely with product management to develop and maintain a mutual understanding of the objectives and deliverables. Uses this understanding to create departmental objectives.
Creates, assesses and provides feedback on project goals.
Works on extremely complex problems where analysis of data and/or situations requires an evaluation of intangible, variable factors. Exercises independent judgment in developing methods and evaluating criteria for obtaining results.
Participates in making and approving decisions and authorizing their implementation.
Develops, establishes and executes organization policies and practices.


Supervision:
Supervision Required:
Works without appreciable direction on assigned projects and/or programs. Determines and assigns objectives to department staff.


Supervision Given:
Recruits, trains, mentors, coaches, counsels and otherwise enables employees to succeed or understand what they must change, stop or start doing in order to be successful.
Sets clear, measurable objectives and drives individuals and teams to achieve. Assures that these objectives incorporate appropriate business, customer and technical contexts.
Allows and supports mistakes by individuals to facilitate learning and growth.
Maintains on-going contact with team members.
Uses consistency in actions, words and behaviors as primary techniques to build trust with team members.


Contacts:
Facilitates and moderates issue identification and resolution.
Understands the customer requirements and communicates them to the project team.
Describes the product functionality being developed with scenarios exhibiting common customer usage. Uses these scenarios to clarify requirements and drive work plans.
Visits and talks with customers at least once per quarter.
May present technical overview and detailed product information to customers during visits, at conferences and at the customer site.


Others:
Experience in mobility/mobile applications. Experience using software automation tools
like Rational a big plus.
