Instructions
This sample test case log can be used as a template for creating your own log. Save this sample under your own workbook name. Then review the tests on each worksheet tab to determine if they apply to your implementation. Delete tests which do not apply, and add new tests which do fit your environment.
How to use this Test Case Log
"This workbook contains seven worksheets for the actual testing: one for basic environmental tests of your Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 computer system, five that cover typical tests by different user types, and one that covers integrated tests where the tester takes on several roles during the test process. A very basic bug list worksheet is also provided to record test results and resolution in this workbook if desired.
Begin with the environmental tests. They must be conducted first. Next, several testers may conduct tests simultaneously, each assuming a different role (project manager, resource manager, team member, executive, and administrator). When all of these tests have been conducted, and all bugs addressed, then conduct the integrated role tests. In these tests, a user will need to logon as several different users. In most cases, this will require setting up Project Server 2003 authenticated accounts, but ideally this should be performed using Windows User Authentication in a test environment where one user has access to the network credentials of multiple test Windows user accounts."
"When completing the worksheets the following data is captured:
Test: A brief description of the test
Document Reference: if there is a specific reference document which describes the test, enter that reference here.
Date Completed:
Tester: The initials of the tester. Note that by listing the tester's initials to the right on this instruction worksheet, a drop-down list will appear when the sheet is being completed.
Pass/Fail: Self-explanatory. The valid entries are shown to the right, and may be modified if you wish. When a test fails, the recommended practice is to insert a ""retest"" row immediately below the failure and document the retest on that row.
Bug Reference: Enter the bug ID. The bug list worksheet can also be used as a means of resolving the bugs. The ""bugs assigned to"" list to the right can be used with the bug list worksheet.
Resolution/Comments: The tester should enter any clarifying information here.
Each tester should complete the summary at the top of the worksheet after each test period is complete. Enter the total number of tests conducted to date, passed to date, and failed to date in column B.
