I can think of a lot more test cases than just that one. How about a test to see what happens when more water is added to the glass? Does the glass break or does it hold the additional water? What happens if another liquid is added to the glass? What happens if a solid is added to glass, such as a pebble or a marble? What happens if someone knocks over the glass? Will it break? Or is the glass actually made out of plastic? Will the water spill or does the glass have a lid on the top? And just because that liquid is clear, odorless, and tasteless, how do we know for sure that it is really water?
The interviewer may have been looking for creativity. You don't really know for sure. You can give Eddie's textbook answer, or you can be creative. Hindsight is always 20/20, of course, but the best answer would include both. |
