Brief Description

This Optical Test Engineer will provide automated test and calibration code, bring-up, debug and validation focused on our long haul (optical transport) product family and secondarily on our metro product family.


Description

Responsibilities.  
The test engineer will deliver optical performance test results supporting the design and validation phases within the product life cycle.  Duties include development of the test plan and test bed; creation of test methods; and automation in addition to the primary responsibility – executing the tests, analyzing data and reporting.  Documenting results and troubleshooting test, equipment and design issues are key.
•Create test cases to determine optical performance in normal and stressed conditions
•Validate proper operation of optical control loops and optical performance over operating corners such as input power, gain, and temperature ranges
•Measure accuracy of internal performance monitors
•Investigate differences between expected and observed measurements and suggest corrective actions
•Compare results to product specifications and recommending design changes and product acceptance
•Characterize, improve and qualify optical subcomponents during the product design phase
•Debug product and provide feedback to design engineers recommending product improvements
•Resolve repeatability and reproducibility between internal test sets and with external sources
•Improve existing test stations and develop new test stations, including design, instrument selection, station qualification and performance verification
•Improve existing software tools and write new tools for automated data collection and analyses
•Write code to automate testing and calibration
•Transfer of test methods, codes and requirements to Manufacturing organization

Requirements.
•BS with 6yr experience, MS with 3yr experience or PhD: Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Applied Physics, Physics or similar
•Experience with optical transport equipment such as optical amplifiers (EDFA, Raman), mux/de-mux, OADM, AWG, VOA, PD and the like
•Experience with optical transponders, transceivers, transmitters and receivers
•Expertise with optical and electrical test and measurement equipment such as optical spectrum analyzers, optical power meter, wavelength meter, oscilloscopes, BER testers and the like
•Familiarity with test statistics such as Error Of Measurement, GRR knowledge, Cpk
•Test software development and automation (preference for VB.net)
