Technical Support Engineer
Position Title: Technical Support Engineer
Report to: Manager, Customer Service
Position Summary:
The Technical Service Engineer provides technical support primarily to Customers and secondarily to Installation and Field Verification teams. Works with minimal to no supervision. Performs all aspects of problem solving assignments. This person will utilize advanced debugging of various telecommunication protocols an IP Networks. Position may require supervising/mentoring 1 or more Technical Support Engineers on a project level. A24 X7 technical support organization requiring after hours, weekend and holiday work along with on-call responsibilities. Selected engineer will reside and work out of GENBAND- Shanghai, China office.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsible for the achievement of the goals for a project through effective people skills
Manage Customer (cases) and report generation.
Oversee the patch application and upgrade process at a customers site.
Conduct mentoring and peer training of other Technical Support engineers.
Performs an active leadership role during the normal course of business
Plan and coordinate customer project activities, ensures customers take action on project and participate in customer conference calls.
Write reports which will details the problems and indicate corrective actions required to avoid future occurrences.
Key Relationships:
Influences and acts as a mentor to peers, colleagues and customers.
Expected to be a team leader for a Customer
Interface regularly with the customer.
Internal relationships usually to senior TSEs and Department Manager
External relationships usually to Operating Company site technicians and occasionally manager.
Decision Making Authority:
Makes decisions that reflect a supervisory role
Any decisions presented are accepted as technically accurate, feasible and consistent with the goals and objectives of the organization.
Successfully influences customer groups to meet customer requirements.
Problem Solving Responsibility:
Receives only broad technical guidance from peers and manager
Receives only broad managerial guideline
Frequently resolves technical Customer problems of a complex nature which often requires in-depth analysis and advanced technical knowledge.
Utilize innovative methods and solutions to resolve customer issues.
General Skills Criteria:
Perform skills criteria successfully of all lower level Technical Support Engineers and also the following:
LEADERSHIP
Be able to prioritize issues and put actions in place to resolve.
Interface with senior level TSEs to escalate issues so they are resolved in a timely manner, management on occasions.
Provide mentoring to junior-level TSEs on achieving the required tasks to complete a Project on time.
Typical Candidate:
Extensive experience in trouble shooting and debugging techniques
Good knowledge of the various telecommunication protocols and external test equipment.
Minimum 5 years experience as a TSE engineer or equivalent.
Other Skills/Product Knowledge:
Demonstrated overall system and software expertise
Effective interaction with customer contacts
Tactful and courteous in consulting with others
Strong English writing skills
Fluent in English language
Solid background in IP networks
CCNA or other IP certifications are a plus
Formal Education and Training:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and related experience
Media Gateway Test Engineer
Job Responsibility:
As a member of CODC test team, he will be responsible for software integration, system test and technical support for the T8000 and G9 Wireless Media Gateway
Qualifications:
Requires BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent and a minimum of 3 years software development/test experience, preferably 5+ years in the wireless telecommunications industry. Fluency for written and read English is required.
Applicant must be capable of unsupervised work and must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills as well as the ability to work in a team environment.
Knowledge and/or experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:
- 3-5 years of development/test experience in telecommunications is required
- SS7, SIGTRAN
- GSM
- UMTS (Iu, Nb and Mc interfaces)
- CDMA (or SCDMA)
- Megaco (H.248)
- VoIP (RTP/RTCP)
- ATM (PVC/SVC, UNI, PNNI)
- E1 and SDH Facilities
- Test tools(K1297, EAST, Inet, etc)
EMS Test Engineer
-Familiar with Element Management System Testing
-Familiar with DB and SQLs
-Familiar with Unix/Linux Environment.
-Knowledge about Telecom products and protocols.
-Knowledge on unix shell scripts or TCL/TK is a plus
-Experience with Java Swing based performance testing, tuning is a plus
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
-Must be highly motivated, self-driven, and have the ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision
-Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Education and Experience:
-Bachelors/Masters Computer Science
-3+ years relevant experience
