SilkTest for Palm 5.x OS In Beta Testing
02/11/2004
Segue Software (NASDAQ-SCM: SEGU) says palmOne has selected SilkTest for the testing of Palm OS applications. SilkTest is a functional testing product for testing the integrity and quality of enterprise software applications. With SilkTest, palmOne, “the handheld market leader, can now automate the testing of applications prior to deployment, thus ensuring software releases that are of high quality,” Segue says. “SilkTest offers palmOne developers the ability to manage their automation development efforts, run tests automatically whenever and wherever needed and receive quick and accurate test results analysis, enabling them to create and quickly bring to market new, innovative and highly reliable palmOne applications and devices. Prior to the availability of SilkTest for the Palm OS operating environment, the only testing option available to palmOne was manual testing. PalmOne is the first Palm OS licensee to automate the testing process. SilkTest for Palm 5.x operating system is currently only available for beta use by palmOne.”
Segue adds that, “At palmOne’s request, SilkTest – Segue’s popular application-testing product for enterprise applications – was ported to the PalmSource operating system. PalmSource is a leading operating system provider powering next-generation, smart mobile devices and boasts more than 275,000 developers worldwide. In addition to palmOne, other licensees of PalmSource include such notable names as Sony, for its CLIÉ line, Samsung and Kyocera, to name a few.”
“We were pleased when palmOne selected SilkTest as its internal testing tool,” said Steven Glass, vice president of engineering, PalmSource. “We believe SilkTest for Palm OS will provide our licensees and developers with a high-quality option for the automation of application testing and reliability.”
SilkTest for Palm OS “provides an easy-to-use software test and automation environment that allows palmOne developers to be highly productive in their testing efforts,” Segue asserts. “SilkTest features include workflow elements for test creation and customization, direct database access and validation, a built-in recovery system for unattended testing and the ability to test across multiple platforms and technologies with one set of test scripts. SilkTest’s 4Test scripting language is an object-based language designed specifically to meet complex testing needs, such as those required by mobile application designers working to develop robust small-footprint applications.”
“With the availability of SilkTest for testing applications on Palm Powered devices, we have been able to make a huge leap forward in the productivity of our own testing efforts. SilkTest has provided us the ability to automate the testing process using industry-leading technology. Previously, the only option we had available to us was to test manually,” said Steve Glaiser, director of software quality, palmOne. “As a result, we now have a testing process that is verifiable, repeatable and produces results we know we can trust. SilkTest will allow us to take reliability and quality to a whole new level in the Palm OS environment.”
Currently, the beta version of SilkTest for the Palm 5.x OS environment is restricted to internal use within palmOne. General availability will be announced once the beta program has been concluded. |
