How is a Microsoft Project Tracker integration set up with Rational
ClearQuest?


ANSWER:

This solution is intended as a quick start guide for engineers to obtain a
working integration with Rational ClearQuest (CQ) and Project Tracker. For
further information, please refer to Appendex B of the Rational ClearQuest
Administrator's Guide.

1) Install Microsoft Project 2000.

2) In CQ, add the AmBaseActivity package and the AMworkActivitySchedule
package to a schema.  To avoid having to conjure up defects, apply the
packages to a schema associated to the SAMPL database.  If that isn't
possible, create a new database and add a few records.  Create an "All
Defects" query.

3) From the Start menu, select run. From the run Window enter: regsvr32
CQMSPInt.dll.  This command should return a registered success message
box.  This will add the CQ option to the ProjectTracker Tools menu.

NOTE: Only one project plan can be linked to a single CQ database.  This
is a one-to-one relationship.  Once a link has been made it cannot be
removed.

4) Open Microsoft Project choose File > New and select Software
Development from the Project Templates.  Click OK to accept the default
properties of the project. Save the project as MYPROJ.  Click on the
selection to save without a baseline.

5) From the Tools>ClearQuest menu, select "Link to ClearQuest Database"

6) Logon to the appropriate CQ database.

7) Once the CQ database has been selected, the Assign Custom Fields window
automatically displays.  Choose Text1, Text2, Text3.

8) Now add the fields to the MS Project View. From the Insert menu, select
Insert Column.  Specify the fieldname CQ Record (Text1).  Repeat the same
process for the CQ Type field.

9) Next specify to Project Tracker which record types will be enabled for
the integration.  Choose Tools>ClearQuest and select Updating the
ClearQuest Record Types List and click OK.

10) To import a record from ClearQuest, choose Tools > ClearQuest and
select Import New Records from ClearQuest. The "Select Records to Import"
window displays.  This allows one to query for the CQ records that will be
added to the project.  Select the records to be imported that will allow
one to query for the records that are to be added to the project.  Select
the records to be imported and click OK.  At the next dialog box, click
START.  This will add the records to the bottom of the Project Plan.


To export a task from MicroSoft Project to ClearQuest:

1) From MS Project, select the appropriate record type for the task from
the CQ Type field. Repeat for each task that should be exported.

2) Highlight the tasks that you want to export.

3) From the Tools>ClearQuest menu, select Export New Tasks to ClearQuest
