转贴 Do you think SilkTest is dying? Is it been replaced by open source tools and QTP?
看看来自澳大利亚来自microfocus公司的Chief Scientist的回答
SilkTest definitely is not dying. We (Micro Focus) have more than doubled the number of developers on it than we had for many years and have just released a new major version of SilkTest (SilkTest 2010). This version takes the best of the former TestPartner product and SilkTest and combines it to a much stronger product. It now offers multiple scripting options like Java, C#, VB.Net, 4Test, and Visual Test all using the same underlying platform (called Open Agent). It works from the classic SilkTest IDE for 4Test but also can be used within Eclipse using Java or within Visual Studio using C# or VB.Net. Beside that it offers a new IDE (SilkTest Workbench) which allows you to visually create tests without scripting. We are constantly evolving the support for new technologies, like we added WPF, .Net4, SAPGUI just in the current release and will have new support for Java Swing, 64bit, Flex4 within this year. The support for AJAX apps (for IE and FF) is just outstanding - currently you will not find not any test automation tool that can cope better with AJAX applications (e.g. SilkTest runs ~ 15 times faster with no synchronization problems compared to Selenium on IE). Micro Focus is putting a lot of effort into evolving SilkTest further. I am sorry to hear that this is not spread out through the normal channels of Micro Focus. But be assure SilkTest will have a bright future if the community stays to it!

SilkTest Classic and 4Test will be supported for the future. The difference between SilkTest Classic and SilkTest is that we want to support different scripting possibilities based on the same strong foundation what we call Open Agent technology. By this approach we can support different skill levels and bring more people into test automation. 4Test will be a supported language for the forseeable future. In the current SilkTest release 2010 R2 we are introducing a major enhancement for 4Test supporting window declaration recording for the Open Agent. We still recognizing the strenght of 4Test as language perfectly suited for test automation. In future we want to build strong bridges between all scripting environments so that differntly skilled people can collaborate on test automation.
