We aren't going to get where we need to go in time if we stay in the slow lane. I shudder when I hear of XP projects where the acceptance testing is a full iteration behind development. After many years reporting defects to developers, I can tell you confidently that when they finish an iteration,they want to look ahead to the next one. It helps maintain momentum to fix a problem, especially one which may produce refactoring that affects other areas, BEFORE the end of the iteration.
